Issues
The people of Arkansas are hungry for leadership, both in Little Rock and in Washington DC. We need a Governor who is willing to take a stand on tough issues and fight for Arkansas first. We need pro-active policies that encourage economic development and private-sector growth, not the same old recycled ideas from the past. As Governor, I commit to lowering your taxes to foster economic growth, to eliminating wasteful spending and government growth, to improving our literacy rates and educational opportunities, and to always take a stand against dangerous Federal policies that will hurt our state, our businesses, and our economy.
This is how we will leave a better Arkansas for our children and our grandchildren.
Creating New and Better Jobs
I have a proven record of having helped create more than 3,500 jobs in the private sector during my business career. With my plan of reforming the tax structure and reducing unnecessary regulations to create the most business friendly environment in the United States, I will help bring more and better jobs to Arkansas.
Lower Taxes
Arkansas currently ranks 40th in a "business-friendly environment". We also have the 43rd highest sales tax burden in the country. "Tax Freedom Day" (the first day of the year a person has theoretically earned enough income to fund their annual tax burden) is April 3rd. This ranks 38th nationally. To move forward, we must stop recycling the same ideas and policies from the past. This starts with our tax policies. - Read More
Obamacare
As governor, I will demand our attorney general join 21 other states and the NFIB in the lawsuit against Obamacare. I've said from the beginning that this would be a job killer for our state, and now we are seeing that to be true. While there are some good parts of the bill, Arkansas simply can't afford the $200 million it will cost our state every year.
Ethics
The people of Arkansas deserve accountable leaders in Little Rock. The same rules that apply to everyday Arkansas should apply to the politicians that walk the halls in the state capitol. Here is my 6-point plan to promote ethics and accountability in state government. - Read More
Immigration
It is a compelling public interest of this state to discourage illegal immigration. As governor and attorney general, Mike Beebe has done little or nothing to deal with the problem. He has repeatedly taken the position that it is not the state’s business. He says it is a problem for federal authorities and has openly discouraged collaboration with federal authorities. Because he has provided no leadership, Arkansas has fallen behind other states which have addressed the problem, including most recently Arizona. I support their efforts to protect their citizens. I intend to do something about this problem when I am elected governor. Here are two steps I will take on Day One: - Read More
Social Issues
I am a believer in traditional family values. I am pro-life and believe that marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman.
Fighting for Arkansas First
As your Governor, I will not stand by and refuse to take a stance on Federal policies that are going to hurt our nation and our beloved state. I will always put the needs of my state above the needs of my party. - Read More
Education
Education is the backbone of any great society. Our state is now competing with countries like India and China. As a state, we must continue to improve our educational system, and always make sure we adopt policies that put the needs of our children first. - Read More
Protecting Our Neighborhoods
Every family deserves a sense of security in their home and in their neighborhood. In order to be a prosperous state, we must first be a safe state. - Read More
