Jim Keet, the Republican challenger to Gov. Mike Beebe, made a campaign stop in Paragould on Monday night to address a crowd of about 40 gathered in one of the upstairs conference rooms at the community center.
Keet told the crowd a little of his background, from his arrival in Arkansas in 1975 to start a Wendy’s franchise with a business partner to his record of community service and his terms in both the state House and Senate. He said he took a 14-year hiatus from political office to pursue business interests, but decided to throw his hat back in the ring after he moved back to Arkansas from Florida in late 2008 and took stock of “what’s going on in the state.”
“We’re a great state, but we’re in a rut,” he said.
He told supporters if elected, he would work to create a more business-friendly climate “removing unnecessary regulations” and reforming the tax code to make it easier to start and operate businesses.
